The new vegan bacon includes 10 rashes and costs £2.19 per pack.
Customers quickly took to the comments following the post of the new product with outrage from the name of the new vegan product, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Adding to Facebook comments one wrote with outrage: “Call it something else. Bacon is a cut of MEAT. Simples.”
Another commented: “Impossible … bacon is meat….. rename it,” demanded a second.
A third exploded with: “Getting p****ed off with this now. You don’t want to eat meat so why the hell would you want to eat a product that resembles it?????”
“Bacon is bacon which is meat this isn’t so don’t call it bacon!” declared another.
One other shopped called the name ‘infuriating’.
Despite the number of furious comments from shoppers others had some more positive comments to add.
One Aldi fan said: “I envy the people whose biggest worry in life is what Aldi are calling their fake bacon.”
Another agreed: “For those complaining about it being called bacon because you want it described precisely. Maybe the meat version should be called ” sliced pig back or side”. You know, for the sake of accuracy and all that.”
“I’m not a vegan or veggie at all, really love meat and dairy products, BUT I don’t get why people get so annoyed by stuff like this. I think it’s great having a wide range of food options for vegans and veggies. Sometimes I try them myself in addition for a change,” agreeing a third fan additional.
