Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor claims Dean Smith will not be in a rush to welcome Leon Bailey back into his side following the Jamaican’s injury problems since joining the cub.
Bailey picked up a muscular injury in Villa’s 3-0 win over Everton earlier this month and afterward missed the win over Manchester United at Old Trafford last time out.
The winger will not be fit enough for selection as Villa travel to Tottenham this weekend and Agbonlahor believes that Smith will take his time over bringing Bailey back into the fold.
The former Premier League marksman said: “It depends how the injury occurs. He got injured scoring a goal and I think everyone would get injured kicking the ball as hard as he did for his goal,” he told Football Insider.
“No, I’m not worried. They’ve got to take their time with him.
“If I was Aston Villa I’d just give him the time now to get up to speed physically and don’t rush him back now.
“There’s the international break coming up now and there’s one in November in addition. That’s come at a perfect time.
“Just let the injury heal, give him a associate of Under-23s games to ease him in gently.
“That’s what Aston Villa will do, they’re not in a rush for Leon Bailey to get back into the side. They’ve got other quality wingers who cannot already get a kick at the minute with El Ghazi, Traore and Ashley Young in addition.
“Villa will take their time with him and make sure he’s right when they bring him back.”
