The main reason for vaginal itching caused by bacterial vaginitis is the change in the vaginal flora. This happens when there is overgrowth or overproduction of bad bacteria in the vagina. With overgrowth of bacteria the flora gets imbalanced and turns slightly acidic causing discomfort and itching. Sometimes you may already experience pain, which can be more noticeable after sexual intercourse.
It is comparatively easy to get rid of vaginal itching if you follow some simple remedies:
1) Having many layers of clothes for very long can sometimes rule to itching sensation caused by the bacteria retained in the warm and moist conditions produced by the additional layers of clothes. The warm conditions make it conducive for itching caused by bacterial vagainitis, yeast infection and trichomoniasis. So make sure you avoid wearing too much clothing that is tight for very long. Also try and stick to absorbent cotton fabric, especially for undergarments.
2) The chemicals used in the soaps and detergents can also cause harm to the sensitive vaginal skin resulting in irritation and uncomfortable feeling. To prevent any allergic reaction it is always recommended to go for herbal products that don’t contain chemicals. If the allergic reaction persists for very long, you should definitely visit a dermatologist to get the condition corrected at the earliest.
3) A good home cure to get rid of vaginal itching caused by bacterial vaginitis is sitz bath in water that has baking soda. Add 4-5 tablespoons of baking soda to a tub of warm water and bathe in it 2-3 times a week, until your symptoms clear completely. Sitz bath will help to normalize the vaginal flora and excursion away the infection caused by bacteria.
4) Other simple methods to restore the vaginal flora include use of probiotic supplements that can introduce the good bacteria in the vagina which provides the protection. However it is important that you buy probiotic products that have a large concentration of good bacterium and those that help clear infections.
