From the closure of a popular pub to warnings Covid could be spread via trick-or-treating, the news agenda has been busy in Cambridgeshire today (Monday, October 25).

Cambridgeshire murder case to appear in TV special

The investigation into the murder of a man in a Cambridgeshire suburb was the focus of an episode of Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody.

The show was expected to follow detectives as they launched a manhunt for Robert Parkins, who left his victim bleeding to death in a St Neots street.

Parkins, aged 34, of Darrington Close, Eaton Socon, was sentenced to 19 years in prison at The Old Bailey in August 2020 after being found guilty of the murder of Alex Fitzpatrick.

Flying Pig pub closure breaks hearts as Cambridge says final goodbye

The Flying Pig pub closed its doors for the last time after 24 years at the weekend.

On Saturday, October 23, Cambridge locals said goodbye to the Victorian pub and popular independent music venue.

An popularity to the Planning Inspectorate over proposals to demolish the building has been made.

Cambs parents ‘urged to restrain’ from trick or treating due to Covid

Ahead of Halloween the message from public health chiefs is don’t let Covid come knocking at your door.

Coronavirus continues to surge across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, particularly among young people.

As a consequence, everyone is being urged to avoid trick or treating this year with a reminder that no sweets are worth catching the virus for.

Cambridgeshire Police has had 25 drink-spiking reports since July

Cambridgeshire police have revealed the number of reports of drink-spiking they have received since July.

The confirmation comes as concerns have grown over safety in nightclubs due to drink spiking with some women already saying they’ve been victim to needle spiking.

However, out of the 25 reports Cambridgeshire Constabulary has had, they say they have not received any reports of this.

Mysterious glowing object spotted flying by the sky over Cambs town

A mysterious, glowing, and fast-moving object was spotted by one eagle-eyed Cambridge resident over Bar Hill this morning (October 25).

Josh Roberts-Law, who snapped a photo of the shining object, thought it might be a meteor or debris from space.

But unfortunately for any UFO-spotters or astronomy fanatics, the light’s origin seems to have a rather more simple explanation.
