Is the Air Impact Wrench the Coolest Tool Ever?
No, this is not a trick question but simply a method to bring your attention to a pneumatic tool that I happen to think is one every tool set needs to have. Why do I think air impact wrenches are the coolest tools ever? Consider the following:
First of all, if you’re confused as to which tool I am exactly speaking about, you may know it by another name. The air wrench is also called an air gun, torque gun (my favorite name as I just think the work torque is cool) and the rattle gun. All of these names are referring essentially to a socket wrench strength tool. It is able to deliver high torque with minimal exertion by the user.
The tool is run on compressed air, although can be run on electric in addition. One of the first things that is great about owning one of these is that you will be able to find every obtainable standard socket size. This method the wrench can be used on small assembly and disassembly projects on one end of the extent, or can be used on major construction projects.
The two main styles of air wrench are the inline form – this is the one you keep up like a screwdriver; and the more commonly known version – the pistol grip. In these models there are various ways you can attach the sockets or accessories to the anvil. In some versions there is a spring-loaded pin that snaps into a matching hole, securing the socket. There is also the hog ring (another favorite phrase) which holds the socket in place by snapping into provided indents.
Special Considerations When Using One
Like many special things, the air impact wrench required a certain touch when using it. for example, newbies to the tool often over-tighten or over-torque a nut or bolt when first using one. This can cause cross-threading to occur which is a bad, bad thing. In order to prevent this, be sure to hand tighten every nut or bolt before using the air wrench on it. This will help the wrench stop when a certain level of torque is met.
Another thing to observe, there are certain accessories your wrench will require. These are mainly an air compressor, preferably one with a 10 gallon tank and enough HP to function the wrench you have purchased. Also, you will need to make sure you get the proper sockets for this tool. Look for the ones that are made to resist a high torque that will be supplied by the wrench.
Maybe it’s just me, but I happen to think the air impact wrench truly is the coolest – or at the minimum one of the coolest tools out there. If you don’t own one already, do yourself a favor and pick one up and see if you aren’t convinced yourself.
